My Story
by Ron Place
Each of us as we travel through life has a story to tell. For most people this story revolves around what is most important to them. It could be family, political involvement, issues of nature and conservation, etc. The possibilities are endless. My story is as follows:
I am a Jesus follower.
In college I read books by C.S. Lewis, Josh McDowell, Paul Little, Francis Schaeffer and many other writers. These names are probably unfamiliar to most people. They were devoted theologians who were provocative thinkers. As I read their works I was confronted with the question, "Who is Jesus, really?" He was either an ego-centric boaster and liar, or He was as He claimed "The Son of God". He was NOT just a good man.
In the Bible Jesus made many references to himself that illustrate the statement made above. These include:
-
I am the Bread of Life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty. (John 6:35)
-
I am the Resurrection and the Life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will never die. (John 11:25)
-
I am the Way, the Truth and the Life. No one comes to God except through me. (John 14:6)
Greater Bible scholars than I have articulated this dilemma and if you want further information on who Jesus claimed to be, read the above links I have compiled to other resources which grapple with the God Questions people are asking today.
The bottom line is I decided Jesus was the Son of God, the Messiah, the Anointed One, and I committed my life to serving Him.
That was fifty years ago. Today I can say I made the right decision.
The quality of life I enjoy, the patience I display, and the assurance I have that I am going to spend eternity in the presence of Jesus gives me a peace of mind that is unquestionable.
